The Mafia Game

NIGHTTIME

The game starts with 10 players in the nighttime with all players blindfolded. At this point each player individually are assigned roles to play in the game. There are two teams the Black team (THE MAFIA) and the Red Team (THE CIVILIANS). The mafia has a DON and the civilians have a SHERIFF, these are the two special players on both teams.

After everyone is assigned a role to play in the game, the town remains in night time. During the initial night the Mafia, quietly so no other player hears, wakes up, introduces themselves, the Don signals to the other mafia that he is the Done and decided who they are going to kill in the next 3 nights. The mafia will have only 1 minutes to do this.

Starting from the first night, the Mafia members kill their selected player, while blindfolded, in line with the orders provided by the  Don.

In order to execute a successful killing, all of the Mafia members must simultaneously perform a shooting gesture as soon as the moderator announces the number of their intended victim. The Mafia will be considered to have missed if they don’t shoot simultaneously at the right moment.

Then, both The Don and the Sheriff – one after the other – use their investigative privileges to try to unveil the identity of their Sheriff and Mafia opponents respectively.

Subsequently, morning comes to the town, at which point the Mafia’s victim – if shot successfully – is announced as eliminated by the moderator. The eliminated person has 60 seconds to give a final speech before leaving the game.

DAYTIME: DISCUSSION/VOTE

During the day scene, each player has 60 seconds in which they take turns to make a speech where they can share with the circle their analysis and suspicions about whom they believe – or in the case of a Mafia member, who they want everyone to believe – are the Mafia members.

During their speech, the player can also practice their right to nominate a single player whom they would like to be remove at the end of that day.

This is done by saying: “I nominate player number (??)” and is accepted only if the moderator states “accepted” at the end of your nomination. Only a properly nominated player can be considered a candidate for the elimination vote.

If the moderator does not say “accepted”, this means one of two things. One, your nomination was incorrectly stated or, two, the player has already been nominated by another player.

The players then vote against the person they want to leave the game, all players must vote. If you do no vote your vote will count towards the last person nominated. The person receiving the majority vote is thereby eliminated. After someone is voted off, they have 60 seconds to give a final speech to the circle.

At which point the day scene is over and the previous scene sequence repeats itself until one of the teams win.

HOW TO WIN THE GAME

  • The Citizens win if they successfully eliminate all the mafia members.
  • The Mafia wins as soon as there are an equal number of Mafia and Citizen members remaining at the table. For example, if there are six players at the table, and three of them are Mafia, the victory goes to Mafia.
